What is a Certificate of Care?

This is an established list of standards which lay out the required knowledge and behavioural expectations of those who work in England’s healthcare and social services sectors. The Care Certificate was launched in 2015, as a UK government initiative to improve quality in the healthcare and social care sectors.

The Care Certificate is composed of 15 standards that cover topics like communication, privacy, dignity, safety and health, safeguarding and person-centred caring. These standards aim to provide a comprehensive and consistent foundation for training healthcare workers regardless of their job role.

The Care Certificate will be awarded to those who have successfully completed all the training and assessments required to demonstrate their competence and understanding of each of the 15 standards. For Care Worker Jobs, consider www.caremark.ie/job-opportunities/care-assistant-job-opportunities/

Those who are involved in the care sector, such as healthcare assistants and support workers, as well as care assistants and other staff, who provide direct care for patients, clients or service users, often take on the Care Certificate.

The Care Certificate can be completed online using a self-paced programme or an instructor-led course. This can be done remotely on a computer or mobile phone.

It is important that when choosing an online course or provider, you ensure it meets Care Certificate standards, and is accredited by a reputable organisation.

As the health and social care sector is constantly evolving, it’s possible that the Care Certificate standard will change or new requirements may be introduced to respond to issues or challenges. Individuals may be required to undergo additional training or assessments to demonstrate their competency in these areas or retake the care certificate.
