Tips for Mounting a TV

Whether your TV came with a mount or you’re looking to upgrade to one, mounting your screen saves floor space and can make for a more cinematic viewing experience. However, the process can turn a bit tricky if you’re not prepared ahead of time. Luckily, with some careful preparation and some helpful tips, you can make this project go a lot more smoothly.

  1. Find the right wall

The first step is to decide where you want your TV to be mounted. A common place is above a fireplace but it’s important to take into account seating location and the height at which you’ll watch TV. It’s a good idea to sit in your preferred chair or sofa where you’ll be watching TV and measure from the floor up to eye level to ensure it’s at a comfortable position for everyone who will be watching (you can use a few handy online calculators to help determine this). 1. Make sure the wall can support the weight

To prevent damaging your wall and causing a safety hazard, mount your television to studs whenever possible. You can purchase a stud finder to help you locate the wooden supports in your wall, also known as studs, and screw your TV mount into these if you’re able to do so. If you aren’t able to screw into a stud, you should consider using appropriately rated drywall anchors or toggle bolts. These are designed to hold your TV in place, but they’re not as secure as screws into a stud and will require additional effort from you to anchor it to the wall.
